Bamako (ANTARA News) – Ivory Coast reggae star Tiken Jah Fakoly on Sunday joined the call for Laurent Gbagbo to accept defeat in the presidential election last month and down.
“There must be democratic,” said vocal musician during a press conference in the capital of Mali where he had lived since civil war broke out in Ivory Coast in 2002.
“He (Gbagbo) to find the exit. We live in a planetary village and when the conversation around the world about you, you need to hear,” he said.
“There are too many deaths in Ivory Coast, we do not want more bloodshed,” he said.
“Only the supporters of Gbagbo today is television (public) that it controls the day when he no longer controls the TV, finished ..”
Reggae star has a long history of social activism and politics, and he made headlines in 2007 when he stated “persona non grata” by Senegal after criticizing President Abdoulaye Wade.
Gbagbo has become locked in a dangerous face-off with an old nemesis Alassane Ouattara after both claimed victory in presidential elections last month, state and named himself president of a rival government.
Ouattara has been recognized by the UN and the international community.
