Barack Obama Obamas join stars for Christmas benefit concertWASHINGTON – President Barack Obama to help ring in the day off Sunday night with music stars Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox and Maxwell at the annual “Christmas in Washington” concert.

Festivals, guided by comedian Ellen DeGeneres, takes place at the National Building Museum and the National Children Medical Center benefit.

Performers singing Christmas songs and performed for the Obama family – including Michelle Mother, daughter Malia, 12, and Sasha, 9, and grandmother Marian Robinson First – in a crowded auditorium.

In his speech to the crowd, Obama talked about the story of Jesus’ birth.

“The story and the message speaks to us today. We are called to love one another as we love ourselves,” Obama said from the stage, with his family around him. He pointed out that the situation is difficult for many people this holiday.

“We pray for our troops we remember. Those who do not have jobs and struggle to get by,” Obama said, urging people to show “charity, spirit, and goodwill” for their neighbors. “From our family to you, happy holidays and Happy Christmas.”

Before the event, Obama’s family is offering a reward from the White House to a group of children dressed as elves, which puts them under the Christmas tree.

“Ho, ho, ho. Elf Characters,” Obama said as the group posed for pictures.

Also appearing at a charity concert that Miranda Cosgrove, who starred in Nickelodeon TV series “iCarly,” and Matthew Morrison, who describes the music secondary school teacher optimism in the TV show “Glee.”

This concert will be aired Friday on TNT.
